“Still standing after more than 100 years, our Old Cabin is now owned by a third generation of family members. Its furnishings, ambiance and surroundings remain much the same as when our grandparents bought it in 1942.”
Your Visit
We want you to enjoy your stay at Goodyears! Our hope is that this website can make all the information you’ll need readily available.
Before you go, we ask that you familiarize yourself with basic procedures at the cabin — Old or New — that you’ll be staying in. (But never fear, we have a printed how-to- manual available in Goodyears as well, because the internet has not yet reached town.)
Things to Know Before You Go
Please take your own bed linens and bath towels. The bedroom in the old cabin has a full-size bed. There’s also a full-size bed on the sleeping porch and a fold-up single bed in the living room. The loft in the new cabin has a queen bed, a full-size bed and a single bed. There is a fold-out queen sofa bed downstairs.
Cell phone coverage is not available. We have a land line, (530) 289-3456, in both cabins.
We don’t leave food in the cabin — the mice would have too much fun! Please remember to remove perishables from the refrigerator when you leave.
You may take your own food or shop for food in Downieville. Be forewarned that grocery stores tend to come and go in Downieville. As of February 2014 the grocery store in Downieville is open but do not depend upon it for anything fresh. If you need beer, it’s the store for you.
In exchange for using the cabins, we ask you to help out with some of the cabins’ routine maintenance during your stay. See the Chores Overview, which lists tasks that need to be done around the cabins. One especially important one: For fire protection, we clear dead leaves, pine needles and nature’s other debris from around the cabins. They can be piled near the new cabin, and about once a year they can be dropped off at the landfill.
Snow is rare but possible. If you visit in the winter, be prepared. Also, please shovel heavy snow off the roofs of the cabins if you can; that will help prevent a cave-in.
For safety’s sake, please no smoking in or around the cabins.
Driving Instructions
Navigate to the Goodyear Bar exit on Highway 49 in Sierra County.
After the sharp right turn off the highway, you have about 0.5 mile to go to reach the cabins. Cross the Yuba River on the one-lane bridge and at a stop sign at a “T,” then turn right on Mountain House Road. Pass the St. Charles Inn on your right, curve to the left and cross a bridge.
Our New Cabin: 422 Mountain House Road.
It’s a red structure with a green tin roof on the left side of the road. Park just past the cabin.
Our Old Cabin: 421 Mountain House Road.
On the right side of the road, the cabin is painted red with a green tin roof.
Exit from Highway 49 to the right and cross the bridge into Goodyears Bar.
